5 Tips on Dealing with Self-Doubt
Self Doubt is a dangerous feeling and ADHD can make your mind fixate on past failures. Use these tips to move past it and work on your goals.
- Acknowledge your self doubt and find comfort in the reality that everyone has it.
You’re not the first person to doubt themselves, you won’t be the last.
Even the world’s greatest leaders, athletes, and intellectuals had moments of defeat and devastation.
While you may see the success, money, and fame at the peak of their journey, you haven’t seen the late nights, the breakdowns, and the setbacks they’ve had. - Come to terms with the fact that you’re gonna make mistakes.
You might doubt yourself because you think that you’re going to fail. The only way to fail is to be so paralyzed by fear that you don’t start at all or quit along the way.
No path to success is free and easy. Accept that you will make mistakes as you work toward your goals, make those mistakes and learn from them, and keep going. - Write and repeat your affirmations.
Add a goal specific affirmation to your daily affirmations. Write it as though you’ve already achieved the goal.
It might sound something like “I ran a marathon in less than four hours.” or “I have $10,000 in my savings account.” - Know that you’re never going to feel confident for extended periods of time.
Even if you’re reciting affirmations often, setting goals, and journaling, there are still going to be times when you feel discouraged.
That’s okay.
Acknowledge those feelings, remind yourself that this feeling is temporary, and keep working toward your goals. - Start small on smaller goals to build your confidence.
Start with five minute goals. Instead of trying to run a marathon, walk around the block for five minutes.
Instead of trying to save $100 a week, save $10. If you can reach smaller goals repeatedly, then try slightly higher goals until you’ve reached your ultimate goals.
