How to read more books

When the subject of reading comes up, I hear a lot of people say “I wish I read more,” or “I don’t have time to read, but I wish I did.”

I read quite a few books and listen to audiobooks, but it wasn’t always this way. I had to put some systems in place to make time for reading.

If you’re looking for tips for reading more books, this blog post is for you.

  1. Set aside time for reading everyday.
    • You don’t need a lot of time, just 10-15 minutes a day works great to get into the habit of reading.
    • I usually read right before doing my bedtime routine. This is also when I turn off all screens and charge my phone so that I can have a break from screen time.
  2. Try listening to audiobooks.
    • Audio books do take some getting used to, and they’re not for everyone, but if you like them, you can listen to them at a quicker pace.
    • You can listen while doing other things, like working out or cleaning.
  3. Ask friends for book recommendations.
    • Chances are, if a friend likes a book, it might be about something that interests you as well.
    • It’s also a nice discussion point the next time you see them.
  4. Put down books you’re not interested in.
    • While putting down books to read more might seem counterintuitive, it’s actually super helpful.
    • If you make a rule of not picking up another book until one is finished, but the book you’re reading is dull, you might stop reading altogether.
    • When you’re having a hard time reading a book, put it down and reach for another one. You can always go back some time later to try reading it again.

I hope these tips help you to read more books.

Remember that reading should be fun! Keep trying new genres and books until you find a book that you enjoy sitting down and listening to or reading the physical copy.
