Book Review: You Are a Badass at Making Money
This book is one of my favorite self help and finance books. It’s about changing your mindset to be more open to making money.
I read this book very often, usually when I’m applying to jobs so I can get a pay increase, or when I’m about to encounter a large expense, like putting down a security deposit for a rental apartment or when I had to save up for hospital bills when I was pregnant.
With ADHD, I struggle with impulse spending and intrusive thoughts that tell me I’ll never achieve financial freedom. This book helps me to change into a more positive outlook on wealth.
Title: You Are a Badass at Making Money: Mastering the Mindset of Wealth
Author: Jen Sincero
Publishing Date: April 18, 2017
Key Takeaways:
- You can have money AND be a good person.
Like me, you might have been raised in a household where the mindset was “Money is the root of all evil,” or “We’d rather you be poor and a good person than rich and a bad person.”
While the sentiment was sincere and came from a good place, money is not good or bad, it’s simply a tool to exchange services or goods.
Also, if you have money, you can serve others by donating to charity and giving thoughtful gifts to loved ones. You can also be more present when spending time with family because you’re not constantly stressed about finances.
- You need a positive attitude toward making money in order to build wealth.
This book says that unless you have a good attitude and sincerely believe that you can make money, you will never be able to put in the hard work that it takes to improve your financial situation.
If you have a bad attitude, you might be closed off to seeing money making opportunities or never be happy with any amount of money you make.
The author, Sincero, was broke and scraping by well into her adult years until she decided that she’d had enough. She worked hard to change her mindset and started taking her writing career more seriously.
Her shift in mindset helped her to earn more money and better her life.
- You’re going to need to make uncomfortable decisions and do hard work.
While the mindset of wealth is the first step, Sincero also talks about being uncomfortable while building her business.
She had to decide that she was going to make a lot of money, call clients and face lots of rejection, and do a lot of hard work.
ADHD Friendly Tip:
Add an affirmation to your daily affirmations in order to help you maintain the mindset of wealth.
My wealth affirmation is “I make more than enough money for me and my family.”
ADHD can break down your confidence if you’ve tried and failed at making money and building wealth. This book will help you to mentally repair that confidence and get you moving toward your goals of making money and using it to live the life you’d like.
