How to read more books
When the subject of reading comes up, I hear a lot of people say “I wish I read more,” or “I don’t have time to read, but I wish I did.”
I read quite a few books and listen to audiobooks, but it wasn’t always this way. I had to put some systems in place to make time for reading.
If you’re looking for tips for reading more books, this blog post is for you.
- Set aside time for reading everyday.
- You don’t need a lot of time, just 10-15 minutes a day works great to get into the habit of reading.
- I usually read right before doing my bedtime routine. This is also when I turn off all screens and charge my phone so that I can have a break from screen time.
- Try listening to audiobooks.
- Audio books do take some getting used to, and they’re not for everyone, but if you like them, you can listen to them at a quicker pace.
- You can listen while doing other things, like working out or cleaning.
- Ask friends for book recommendations.
- Chances are, if a friend likes a book, it might be about something that interests you as well.
- It’s also a nice discussion point the next time you see them.
- Put down books you’re not interested in.
- While putting down books to read more might seem counterintuitive, it’s actually super helpful.
- If you make a rule of not picking up another book until one is finished, but the book you’re reading is dull, you might stop reading altogether.
- When you’re having a hard time reading a book, put it down and reach for another one. You can always go back some time later to try reading it again.
I hope these tips help you to read more books.
Remember that reading should be fun! Keep trying new genres and books until you find a book that you enjoy sitting down and listening to or reading the physical copy.
