I’ve Had 17 Jobs in 13 years

I’ve had a lot of jobs over the past several years. I’ve learned a lot about the types of work I enjoy and more about the types of jobs I don’t. It took me a while before I landed in a career field that I enjoyed, could support my family, and challenged me.

If you ever feel bad about switching jobs, just read this article and take comfort that I used to switch jobs a TON and still got to a good place.

Just a note though: if you’re applying for jobs, just remember to only keep the most relevant and most recent job experiences on your resume.

    1. I worked at my parent’s Filipino restaurant when I was in middle and high school.

  2. School Cafeteria Aide
    1. Helping in the kitchen at my high school.
    2. Duration: One year
  3. Intern and Research Assistant
    1. Aided my mentoring professor in the field with Civil Engineering work.
    2. Duration: Two years
  4. Ticket Taker/ security
    1. Staffing for basketball and football games at my college
    2. Duration: One year
  5. Civil Engineering TA
    1. Graded papers for an Introduction to Civil Engineering course.
    2. Duration: One semester
  6. Sales
    1. Sold motion-activated toilet night lights in Vegas.
    2. Duration: One weekend
  7. Janitor
    1. Early morning cleaning in a college office building.
    2. Duration: One month
  8. Car salesperson
    1. Sold cars for a Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram dealership.
    2. Duration: Three Months
  9. Door to Door sales
    1. Sold water softeners
    2. Duration: Two weeks
  10. Teacher’s Assistant and Front Desk receptionist
    1. Worked at a high school
    2. Duration: One semester
  11. Dishwasher and Event staff
    1. Worked for a catering company
    2. Duration: Two Months
  12. Caregiver
    1. In-home care for an elderly patient
    2. Duration: Two weeks
  13. Phone sales
    1. Sold satellite internet contracts.
    2. Duration: One Year
  14. Gig driver
    1. Drove for Lyft

  15. Front Desk Receptionist
    1. Checked in patients for a family medicine office
    2. Duration: Two years
  16. IT analyst
    1. Did IT for a construction company
    2. Duration: Nine months
  17. IT service desk agent
    1. Current role for a banking company.
    2. Duration: Six months
